Don't Let Them Silence Arizona! Take Action and Fight Back to STOP HB2873

Updated: Apr 22

As voters of Arizona, we are deeply concerned about HB2873, which weakens Arizona’s referendum power and lets politicians and corporate lobbyists cancel our vote.

HB2873 allows referendum petitions in cities and towns to be withdrawn after they are turned in. This means that signatures can simply be erased if the individual or organization collecting them decides to take them back. The voice of citizens who signed in good faith would be silenced.

HB2873 not only undermines future efforts to force local issues to the ballot, but it also undermines a current referendum effort to oppose a data center in Marana. HB2873 has far-reaching implications and the bill weakens one of the most effective tools citizens have to say “No” to their local government.

UPDATE: HB 2873 Has Passed the Arizona Senate.

On April 21st, the Arizona Senate passed HB 2873. The bill now heads to the House for a final vote. If it clears the House, it goes directly to Governor Hobbs' desk.

This is urgent. Data center lobbyists are actively working the halls of the Senate, the House, and the Governor's office to push this bill through. We believe Governor Hobbs will sign it if she doesn't hear from Arizonans like you right now.

What makes this even more alarming is that this amended bill was written to target ONE community: Marana. The amendment makes HB 2873 retroactive to January 1, 2026 and sets it to expire on August 1, 2027, a window designed specifically to impact the current referendum effort where Marana residents organized to challenge a massive data center threatening their water and resources.

This is not a procedural fix. This is a targeted attack on a community that did everything right.
